Dear High Meadows Families and Students,

Welcome to the 2010/2011 school year. In addition to the music program offered to every student as part of their weekly school curriculum, the HMS music department offers an extensive before and after-school curriculum for most ages.

Below you will find the complete listing for this year’s music offerings outside of the regular school day.

Returning families will recognize some familiar offerings with updates or new twists, including the long-awaited return of Advanced Music Ensemble. Additionally please take note of some very different ensembles being introduced for the first time at HMS.

New families with students eager to explore or further develop their musical skills or interests will discover something for almost everyone.

The following listings are complete with all pertinent information needed for families to decide what they may choose to do, and plan their extra-curricular musical path of instruction for the entire school-year.

The listings do not include in-depth ensemble descriptions or registration forms. Most of the fall offerings do not begin until September, so students will receive registration forms and any further details desired at the beginning of the school year.

Before and After School Programs

TUESDAY MORNINGS

Advanced Music Ensemble

Eligibility: Open to Advanced Musicians in grades 5-8

AUDITION REQUIRED: Tuesday, September 21, 7:30-8:15AM

Audition results posted: 9/27, by 3PM

Deadline for sign-up: 9/30, 3PM.

Participation Fee: $100; please make checks payable to High Meadows School and turn them into the BANDROOM no later than September 30, 3PM.

Rehearsal Times: Tuesdays, 7:30-8:15AM

Rehearsal Dates: October 5, 12, 19, 26; November 2, 9, 16, 30; December 7, 14

Performances:

WEDNESDAY MORNINGS

Elective Band Practice for Individuals and Small Groups, Pass-offs and Tutoring Sessions

Eligibility: Any band member

Participation Fee: Included as part of annual band participation fee

Rehearsal Times: Wednesday mornings, 7:30-8:15

Rehearsal Dates: Any Wednesday school is in session beginning September 8 and ending December 8

Participation Guidelines: Any band member, no matter what level, is invited to come to the bandroom at any time between 7:30 and 8:15 to practice alone or with others, receive help from directors and/or clinicians, use Smartmusic, and pass-off music as needed.

Further details will be outlined in the Band Handbook.

WEDNESDAY AFTERNOONS

Drum Club

Eligibility: Any student in grades K-2

Participation Fee: $30 PER SESSION (3 classes per Session; 3 different Sessions offered during the year as outlined below)

Rehearsal Times: Wednesdays, 3:15-3:50

Session I: September 8, 22, 29

Deadline for sign-up: September 7, 3PM

Session II: October 6, 20, 27

Deadline for sign-up: October 5, 3PM

Session III: (FINAL SESSION) January 5, 12, 19

Deadline for sign-up: January 4, 3PM

THURSDAY MORNINGS

Chamber Ensembles

Eligibility: Any student in grades 4-8 that plays a musical instrument and reads music.

Deadline for sign-up: 9/10 3PM

Participation Fee: $100; please make checks payable to High Meadows School and turn them into the BANDROOM no later than September 10, 3PM.

Rehearsal Times: Thursday, 7:30-8:15AM

Rehearsal Dates: September 30; October 7, 14, 21, 28; November 4, 11, 18; December 2, 9

Performances:

***Groups will audition during rehearsal December 2 to determine that they are performance ready.

***All groups auditioning successfully will perform on December 15.

***All ensembles, no matter outcome of audition, will perform on the in-class recital the final day of the session, December 9. Families are welcome to attend.

Marching Drumline

Eligibility: Open to percussionists or musicians able to double on percussion in grades 5-8

***Must be able to carry the drums and move while doing so***

Rehearsal Times: Thursdays, 3:15-4:15PM

Rehearsals: September 9, 16, 23, 30; October 7, 14, 21, 28; November 4 (if 11/5 performance)

Performance: November 3, 5PM

Marching Performance Theatre

Eligibility: Open to Advanced Musicians in grades 5-8.

***This group is considered an extension of Advanced Music Ensemble that was held in the fall***

Audition results posted: 1/7, 3PM

Participation Fee: $200; please make checks payable to High Meadows School and turn them into the BANDROOM no later than January 7, 3PM.

Guitar, Bass, Drumset, Keyboard, Brass instruments, Percussion

Audition results posted: 1/7, 3PM

Deadline for sign-up: 1/10, 3PM
